Home Front
Home Front (2000)

Length: 17 minutes
Music: Maurice Ravel
Lighting: David Finley
Costumes: Russ Vogler
Costumes Assistant: Karen Young

"Home Front," set to "Le Tombeau de Couperin," tells no story, but proposes a myriad of possibilities. Perhaps it presents the uprooted soldiers to whom Ravel, upon his return from the Front, dedicated the five movements of his musical score.

Jennifer Dunning of The New York Times praised Rioult as a "natural storyteller who is increasingly, and distinctively, merging buried narratives with pure dance."

This piece has been funded by The Florence Gould Foundation and the 2000 Altogether Different Fund for New Works, sponsored by The Joyce Theater Foundation, Inc., with major support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
