Kenneth French Fund for New Works

In memory of Kenneth French
Kenneth French was a distinguished American actor (1926-2000) who performed on stage, in film and appeared in performances with several prominent dance companies. Ken was a personal friend, supporter of PRDT and an integral part of the company. He originated the role of the Narrator in Pascal Rioult's "Fables", a performance marked by intelligence, charm and sincerity.

What is the Kenneth French Fund for New Works?
Kenneth French was an enthusiastic early supporter of Pascal Rioult's choreography. At his death, Ken left a generous bequest to the company with which the PRDT Board created the Kenneth French Fund for New Works. The Fund has become a living memorial to Ken's support of Pascal's artistic vision. The KFF has been a source of commission, co-commission or completion funding for many of PRDT's works. Over the past four years, the fund has been supplemented by generous patrons who wish to earmark their gifts exclusively to the creative effort of the company. Every dollar contributed goes only to the creation, reworking or production of works for PRDT

What does the Kenneth French Fund mean to the creative process?
At all levels of giving, the KFF provides direct support to the creative process. The Commissioners and Co-Commissioners provide funding for a specific work or artistic collaboration. The Special Funders provide funding for a specific aspect of the work (set, costumes, music...). The KFF Patrons provide an ongoing financial resource for the creative process. These funds support pieces that have been partially funded or have a final budget in excess of earlier projections. Despite disciplined guidelines, the process of creating a work has many variables; it has a life of its own and is somewhat unpredictable. The KFF Patrons provide the artist with a financial flexibility and sense of security to continue to an optimal result.

Be a part of the creation, and play a leading role!
The unique aspect of the KFF is that supporters who wish to donate specifically to the creative process can do so without having to individually commission a work. For a pledge of only $3,000 which can be granted over a three year period, you can become part of the process of developing a dance work. Now you can play an important part in the creation of Pascal Rioult's new work just as KFF previously supported Firebird, Veneziana and Les Noces. The Company hosts an annual KFF private event to which all KFF participants and their guests are invited.

Contact Ann Stuart, Executive Director if you would like to discuss gifting levels, co-commissions or commissions, at 212-398-5901 or ann.stuart@prdance.org.
